Update of the GM Search

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

I thought it only appropriate to provide everyone with an update as to where we are in our search for a new GM. As you may recall, the Club has retained Larry Hall of Foothills Management Consulting to assist the Board with our search for a new GM. Over the last two weeks Larry has been working with members of the management team, a variety of focus groups and the Selection Committee to develop a Candidate Information Package to help in the recruitment of potential candidates. With Larry’s help the Selection Committee has also developed a one page ad which has been distributed to the members of the Ontario Ski Resorts Association (OSRA) and the Canada West Ski Area Association (CWSAA). Both of these documents are available for you to see on the Beaver Valley blog. Those individuals that are interested in the opportunity that we have defined in the ad are instructed to contact Larry to receive the Candidate Information Package. During the same period of time Larry will also be contacting select individuals from his vast network of contacts throughout North America to gauge their interest in the opportunity.

Over the next few weeks Jen Smith (a former Board member and long time member), Larry and I will begin to sift through all the resumes in order to produce a short list of individuals that we would like to have initial meetings with. After these interviews, Jen and I will present a short list of two or three individuals to the rest of the Selection Committee (George Cancilla, Diane Evans and Doug Christie) from which we will conduct a round of final interviews.

We are in the early stages of our journey, but it is important that the membership understand that I have no intention of rushing this process just so that the Club has a GM in place before the snow falls and the lifts start to turn. It is important that the Club finds a GM that is the right fit with the Club, it’s members and it’s future. I’ve said it before - I have the utmost confidence in our senior management team as they begin to prepare for the start of the season.

As we move along in the process I promise to keep you informed of our progress. If you have any questions about the process, please feel free to email me at: michaelsproule@cogeco.ca

Before I sign off I would like to thank the staff, members and past presidents that have provided and continue to provide input to the creation of the Candidate Information Package, as your comments and ideas have helped to shape the Club’s requirements.

Have a great Labour Day.

Michael
