BV Park Survey

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

The club is completing a user survey regarding our terrain park Andy’s playground and the Slope Stlye program in general. This will help inform our planning for next year. We think we have a great Terrain Park facility and are always looking for ways to improve and keep everything fresh and current.

We would encourage any badge holders with an interest in the Park to complete the survey. It should not be limited to the voting member and we encourage you to ask family members to participate individually. Anyone who completes the survey will have their names entered for a draw prize.

“FLYING BEAVERS”

Summer

Freestyle Skiing Water Ramp Camp

2009

Proposal for Beaver Valley Freestyle Skiing Summer Ramp Camp

Located at Lac Beauport, Quebec

Flying Beavers Registration Form

Background:

For years now, Beaver Valley has been known for it’s involvement in Ontario’s Freestyle Skiing community.  At the same time, we have also produced one of the best female aerialists in the world, and many more global level competitors.  The only problem is to get to that level, Ontario’s athletes have had to travel to places like Lac Beauport Quebec, Whistler BC and Lake Placid USA in the off season.  This would definitely have to be the largest training hurdle that our athletes have.  Due to this, the development of our aerialists, as well as our park and pipe skiers has been significantly delayed in comparison to freestyle competitors in Quebec, BC and the US.

While we are aggressively pursuing the construction of a water ramp in Ontario, we will not have a completed facility for the coming summer season.

In order to keep our athletes developing their jumping skills, we must provide them with a cost effective method of training at an existing facility.  Here it is!

Concept:

The intent is to establish an extended summer camp at an existing water ramp facility.  BVSC Freestyle has developed a training camp plan to exceed our athlete’s expectations. The intent is that “FLYING BEAVERS” will run for 2 months: July and August, and encourage participants to register for one week camps within these months. Should athletes have interest in multiple trips, a discounted rate will be negotiated.

Location:

The Lac Beauport facility within a day’s drive of Toronto is a new, world-class training facility located 20 minutes from Quebec City.

Program Details:

We have based our pricing around a camp running with anywhere from eight (8) to ten (10) athletes.  This seems to strike a good balance between price and coach-to-athlete ratio.  Costs are split between athletes and prices are “all inclusive”.

Coaching:

Brendan Buchar will be the head coach for the “FLYING BEAVERS” ramp camp.  We want to ensure that our coach to athlete ratio is low enough to encourage safe, fun, skill development.
Brendan Buchar is an ex professional Park and Pipe athlete, as well as a previous Jr. National gold medal aerialist.  He also is a certified level 3 NCCP coach, Level 1 club coach, Level 2 Park and Pipe coach, Level 2 air qualifier, Level 2 air snow, Level 2 air water, Level 1 trampoline coach, as well as a level 1 evaluator.  Brendan is able to coach and certify athletes in inverted flips and spins on water and snow.

Weekly Schedule:

Athletes will be allowed to stay at the camp for as many weeks as they like, based on availability, at the weekly rate.  We hope to be able to offer a small discount for extended stays or multi week bookings.

During July and August the schedule will include an off day each week.  Although there would be no ramping, the athletes would be with the coach(s) at an organized activity.  These activities are not confirmed, however they could include biking, hiking, sight seeing, soccer, ultimate frisbee, dodge ball, etc.

One of the main benefits of this type of camp is the flexibility.  Athletes can come and go all summer.  It allows for a great deal of training that can be scheduled around activities such as family vacations, other summer camps and part time jobs.

Typical Daily Schedule:

The daily schedule will include the following:

  • Wake up                                                                                      7:45 - 8:00 am

Food, Behavior, Etc.:

It’s important for everyone to eat well.  We will provide food for all athletes, and it is included in the cost.

All campers will be expected to clean up after themselves, as the parent volunteers and coach are not there to pick up after them. As well, athletes will be expected to look after all of their clothing and other personal effects.  Athletes under 10 are welcome but should be accompanied by a parent.  Athletes should also bring phone cards or a cell phone and arrange times when they can call home to check in.

All athletes will be expected to conduct themselves in a reasonable manner.  Drugs, alcohol and tobacco are strictly forbidden.  Any malicious damage or behavior that requires disciplinary action will be grounds for removal from Camp, and transportation home at athlete’s expense.  This behavior could also affect eligibility for BVSC Freestyle’s winter Programs

Financial Details:

A preliminary budget is attached. Based on this budget it is expected that a week at the camp will be $895 all inclusive.

To ensure a spot in the camp you want, we will require a deposit (50%) with registration, and the balance two weeks in advance of departure.

Deadlines:

Families are currently making their plans for the summer. We need registrations by June 1, 2009. Based on registration levels, some camps may need to be combined.
