Racing - Feb 25/09

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

The Season is coming to a close almost as quickly as we got started.  It seems like just yesterday we were trying to make final decisions on team selection.  We have had a very successful season with lots of great results and some difficult situations that were overcome to make a team stronger than it would have otherwise been.  The K1 Ravens are the perfect example of this.  The Ravens are our only K1 team that has moved on to the finals, and if you remember this was the same team we seriously talked of disbanding.  They had a very tough travel schedule and just enough racers to be competitive.  This team over came all of the obstacles thrown at it and came out as a stronger group for it.  I don’t want to over look the successes of the other teams over the season, as it was a great year for Beaver Valley racing.  We are headed in the right direction and it is not going to be long before Beaver Valley is the club that the other clubs want to be able to beat.  We are going to be able to pull a lot of our motivation and confidence from the success we this season and carry it through to next season.

The season is far from over however, we still have a few races coming up and the all important CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Our March Break camp is also coming up.  We will be hosting the first annual Beaver Valley Nancy Greene Invitational race during this week.  Training will be varied but we will look at running skier cross to expose our racers to race training but force them to develop skiing skills that will help them as racers in a fun and unorthodox environment.
Also look for your off season training flyer in the mail, which will outline the camps we are planning for the spring, summer and fall.  Camps will include: Fitness testing; Goal setting; Summer ski camp; and Fall ski camps.

March Break Camp

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Hello Racers,

March Break is approaching fast and we want to provide you with some productive and fun training alternatives to keep you busy and active.  During March break we will offer some regular race training as well as some unorthodox training.  We will have some cross training, involving dry land and other ski environment activities and some fun races, resembling skier cross.

We would also like to present the first annual Beaver Valley Nancy Greene Invitational Race.  We will start small this year and involve all of our NG racers that are interested including any development racers that would like to attend.  We will also put an invite out to one or two of the clubs around.  This will be an informal and fun focused race to help create another opportunity for our racers.

K1 Ravens - The Little team that DID

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

Wow, what a year the K1 Ravens have had!!

They won ALL their regular season races topped off with a near sweep of the podium at our race at BV.

The semi-finals on Saturday were a resounding success.

The 5 BV boys commanded the slalom course on Limbo at Devil’s Glen, taking the top 5 spots.

The 3 BV girls also had a very strong showing (2 in the top 10).

A parent from Caledon remarked after the race, how successful the BV team was and what GREAT coaching they have.

Thanks Brett & Andrew!!!!
