Beaver Valley Ski Club proudly presents the 5th Annual Snowshoe Romp & Stomp on Saturday, February 7th, 2009.

You will be met by our highly trained Sherpas at 6:15 p.m. in the Members Lounge.  At 6:30 p.m. (sharp) your Romp through the Valley will begin.  Choose from a variety of different routes all designed to invigorate your body and spirit.  You can relax with a guided jaunt to the Sugar Shack for a hot beverage and a warm fire.  You can pick up the pace with a guided trek up the Lazy Loop to the Star Deck on Boomer for a hot beverage and an outstanding nighttime view of Avalanche.  If you wish to pick up the pace even more you can choose to be part of our guided tour through the beautiful lower Bruce Trail.  And, for Spandex crowd, we will have the cardio boosting trek to the top of True North and along the upper Bruce Trail.  Both Bruce Trail adventures include a stop for hot beverages and a warm fire at the Bruce Trail shack.

Following your guided Romp through the Valley you will return to the Base Lodge for a spectacular dinner compliments of Chef Keith.  Your sumptuous dinner will be followed by a Stomp in the Members Lounge with music compliments of Spin Doctor Productions.

And just when you thought this was enough excitement for one evening, we will be hosting the first annual Romp & Stomp Chicken Bowl!  Yes - you heard it right, the Romp & Stomp Chicken Bowl!  This fund raising portion of the evening will take place on the deck after dinner.  Proceeds will be donated to the Romp to Stomp Breast Cancer!!!

Although temperatures took a nose dive once again this past weekend. Our snow pros continue to brave the weather to make the skiing and boarding experience a memorable one for all ages.

Merry Mite Vouchers have become very popular with families with children under 10. These books of 4 lessons cost $125 and are not individual specific. This allows families with several children to book 1hr. privates at a savings.

Monday Feb.16th is "Family Day". If you plan to stay in the valley for an extra day on the slopes. Please let us know if you want a pro booked. We will have limited staffing available but will do our best to fill your requests. Advance bookings will certainly help. What about a " Family Lesson "…. 3 people at the same level of ability  would be $60. Call Carol @ ext.234 or Marilyn @ ext.233 to book your spot.

Gummy Bear House League Race #2 on Sunday, January 25th

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

Overheard two weeks ago in a lift line, a young boy said to his mom, "Mom, did you sign me up for house league? I CAN'T miss it and I HAVE to be there at 12:25."

Overheard this Sunday at the end of House League a young racer exclaimed, "Thanks for running the Gummy Bear House League. I have a lot of fun, but the best part is the gummy bears!"

Distinctly heard in the distance (from the bottom of the race course on Eager Beaver) was the sound of cow bells. In fact, a lot of cow bells! It felt like a real occasion: snow gently falling and the sound of cow bells. You couldn't ask for anything better.

Some special awards for race #2 went out to:

Emma Held          - Happy 8th Birthday !!!!

Brendan Holk      - Best Fall Guy

Leah MacDonald - Best Fall Girl (both skis came off!)

Sommer Gendron - Newbie (best performance for a new racer)

Adeleine Lyon                 - Fall girl award (but this one was standing in the lift line and being run over by a teammate)

Joshua Gilllard     - "Do we have to go around ALL the gates?"

Snowboard Racing Team

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

The snowboard Race Team Had a Great weekend at the home giant slalom race on Reals Run on Jan 24th.  Kevin Foy took home the Bronze medal in his age Group.  Adam Weigert won the sliver, and Craig Smith walked away with the Bronze.  Cam Smith and Adam Koch also have very good showings on a fast and fun course set by Beaver Valleys own Maddy Lang.  As I write this Cam Parkin, Sam Dano , and Elysha Pillar are getting ready to race in the Association of Ontario Snowboarders Boardercross Point Series competition on Andy's Playground.  We all wish them luck.

If you are interested in coming out to see a snowboard race there will be another one on Beaver Trap on Jan 31st.  It is a lot of fun to watch and a great introduction to snowboard racing.  Also we are still looking for volunteers to help make the race run smoothly.  No experience is needed.

I hope everyone has a great week, and see you on snow.  For more information please contact Cam via e-mail racing@beavervalley.ca or thru the competitive programs office.

Teen Lounge & Teen Day

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

Your request for the exclusive use of Fireside was discussed at the last board meeting.  As a result the room is now for TEENS ONLY with the exception of lunch time (11-1). Currently there is a table reserved for a family in that room during this time.  PLEASE NOTE this is a trial run for the rest of the year.

Member’s Lounge Hot Chocolate: I am working with our Food & Beverage department to see what we can do so you can buy your own instead of finding your parents to do it for you. Stay tuned…

We discussed a ‘Teen Day’ at our last meeting on Saturday.  It was suggested that we host it during the  Exam break next year. I think this will be January 25-29, 2010

We could use the Keg as our ‘base’ and have use of the hill for the day. Others will be on the hill, but the Keg will be for Teens only that day.

I will do a proposal for the Board of Directors to sell the day to them, but I need your ideas and thoughts.   If you could answer the following questions for me that would be a great start!

What date?

What are you willing to spend on a ticket?

Would you be willing to pay $100? This would cover breakfast, lunch, après ski,  lift ticket & a gift.

Would you be willing to pay more if there could be entertainment?

What would you like to see for entertainment or special events for the day?

Is there anyone willing to volunteer to help organize the day?

If you have any questions or suggestions at all, please let me know.

The Last Blast

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

At 4:00pm Sunday afternoon, as soon as we were off the hill, our snowmakers began turning on the guns one more time. Good temperatures through Wednesday are giving us the opportunity to consolidate our snow depth and add a little insurance against warm weather. We will be shutting down the system for the season about mid-week and I would like to take this opportunity to thank our snowmaking crew and our groomers for their dedication and hard work; once again they have consistently delivered the best conditions on the escarpment.

Speaking of snow conditions, another amazing weekend has come and gone. It's getting hard to find adjectives to describe this season - we have had superlative snow over and over this winter. From what I am hearing around the Club, ALL our staff have been doing things right! I have been receiving compliments this season about all aspects of the Club - snow conditions, food and beverage, snow school, racing, freestyle, facilities, playschool, events, administration, lifts - so many kind words out there I must give credit where it is due. We have a truly phenomenal team this year whose enthusiasm and hard work give service at BVSC a new meaning. A BIG THANK-YOU from me to everyone involved in putting on the show - front line or behind the scenes, full or part time, members helping out with programs or social events, volunteers on race crew, ambassadors and patrollers, management and certainly your Board of Directors. You are all what makes this Club truly Unlike Any Other.

Happy Trails,

Parker

Nancy Greene Development

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

What a great week in the Beaver Valley Race World.  We had our Nancy Greene Development Racers off to participate at Craigleith for a day of fun and new terrain.   We also hosted a K1 race which went very well.  Big thanks goes out to all of the volunteers that are the only reason we are able to host races and events.  We had many teams away again this weekend with some great results.  A few of our teams even had podium sweeps.

Next weekend we are going to be doing some Snow Stars testing for the Nancy Greene racers on Exhibition.  This is a great opportunity for us to see where we are at and where we need to focus to meet our goals.  Look for your NG racers to be bringing some materials home with them on Saturday.

We are also hoping to start the process of Team photo's next weekend.  We hope to get most done using Saturday and Sunday and finish the rest up the following weekend.  Electronic copies will be made available in the near future.

Let's keep the successes coming and the kids wanting to keep coming back for more!
