CLUB SLOPESTYLE (PARK) SNOWBOARD & FREESKI CHAMPIONSHIP
SUNDAY MARCH 14th

The 4th annual Club SLOPESTYLE Snowboard & Freeski Championship is just over a week away, so make sure you sign up this weekend!

There are categories for both skiers and snowboarders, and if you ski as well as snowboard you can enter in both. There are multiple age categories from 6 & Under through to 40+ and everything in between for girls and guys.
This is BV’s most fun contest of year and it’s got more prizes than any event! If you ski or ride BV’s parks, big or small, you can enter.

It all takes place in Andy’s Playground Park. If you’re just getting started in the Park, don’t worry there will be small features added that you can ride! BV Park Manager Caleb Bosse is adding smaller features similar to Cat’s Meow progression park to Andy’s Playground for the Slopestyle Championship. Note to parents: you can shadow your child down the Slopestyle park course during their run.

You can register at the Clubhouse this Saturday, either at a registration table in the lobby beside the Senior Member’s Lounge or downstairs at the Club office. The cost is $5 for each of Snowboard and Ski categories or $10 if you want to compete in both. Please be sure to indicate snowboard or ski or both when you register. Note: helmets are mandatory.

SLOPESTYLE FORMAT
Slopestyle is a judged event with the emphasis on fun and style. Show-off your best tricks on your choice of park features. The competition will be a fun, free flowing “Jam Format”, one rider at a time. Riders will be organized into pre-assigned age group heats. Heat times will be posted in advance to indicate what time you compete (so you don’t have to wait around all day).

The Slopestyle course will consist of the top section of Andy’s Playground which will be updated as snow conditions permit with additional features, in particular some smaller jumps and boxes on the rider’s right side.

Younger competitors (10 & under) will receive one run, as will those who are 35 & over. For everyone else, we’ll try to provide two runs, time and conditions permitting.

SLOPESTYLE JUDGING & SCORING
There is no minimum number of tricks required – perform as many or few as you wish.

Slopestyle runs will be scored by judges as follows:
20% = Amplitude: the measure of energy of the run that is shown by the height or airtime of each maneuver off the terrain features.
20% = Difficulty of tricks, including doing a tricks switch, the number of rotations and what kind of grabs.
20% = Execution & Landings: tricks should be solid and smooth, with good control. Grabs should be distinct and held as long as possible.
40% = Style / Overall Impression: the overall composition of the run including the sequences and quantity of tricks, the amount of risk and how the rider uses the features.

Beaver Valley Snowboard Park Team update

by Caleb Bosse

A Park Week in Review:

A big thank you goes out to all the competitors on the weekend that enjoyed the Quiksilver King of the Park Series. We had a beautiful sunny afternoon and there was lots of high, flying action going down on the first two jumps of Andy’s Playground. Some of the highlights of the event were Liam Mondou stomping a 720, Hoffman switch back 5’s and Jesse Jarrett’s sweet fur duds, looking very much like a hardcore Viking on a board. The next King of the Park will be held on Sun. 21st of February. Don’t miss it!!!

Upcoming program events:

This upcoming weekend we are hosting the Interclub Slopestyle in Cat’s Meow Terrain Park. This is a grassroots fun event for people learning to ride park or that are fairly new to park riding. This is a fun environment for everyone. We are encouraging all athletes except for our High Performance group to take part.

(Slopestyle: is the most entertaining and fastest growing element to the Snowboard/Skiing competitive world. Slopestyle is an event that consists of a mixed run with rail and jump features. The goal is to put together the best run flowing through the coarse and do your best tricks possible.)

Beaver Valley Park Update

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

Beaver Valley Park Update by Caleb Bosse

Thanks to all riders and skiers who took part in the Quiksilver King of the Park series. We had about 30 competitors who rode it out, soaking up the rain. This past weekend the fun track on Long John was a huge success enjoyed by all kids and adults this past weekend. We got through the rain this week and are in great shape in all the parks. Look forward to seeing some new jumps in Andy’s, new rail setup in Cat’s Meow and the miniramp will be freshly grinded and built taller.

Upcoming Park events

-We are hosting a FSO skiercross and AOS boardercross on Long John Saturday and Sunday. Hope to see lots of Beaver athletes tearing up the course. Don’t missed the action and support our athletes on their home track.

-Feb.7 Quiksilver King of the Park (Old SKOOL addition) be sure to raid you parents closets and find some old school snow suits/gear. We have tonnes of prizing for the best get ups and your best tricks.
