2010 A New Year, A New Start!

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

New Year’s resolutions are always a great way to throw some added motivation into a lifestyle change.   Let’s get out and enjoy the many activities our Canadian winter has to offer.   Being active in cold weather helps burn a few extra calories and the “Fun Factor” is irreplaceable.   As we all have felt our current temperatures are truly Canadian, allowing a great opportunity for our snowmaking crews.  With the added natural snow we are now able to offer all lifts and nearly all of our 28 trails open for use.   This week the Club will operate on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.   Get out and enjoy!

If you have not yet been to the Club, your Members Badges are available from the Administration Office.   When riding the lifts please remember to keep your badge visible in order for the Club ticket checking procedures to be successful.   Remember that all users of the Club lifts and trails must have a valid badge or lift ticket.

With Andy’s Playground opening, all users must complete the Park Pass Program.  The Park Pass Program will be available in the Silver Creek room on Saturday morning from 9:30-11:30am and then return to the Fireside Lounge from 1:00-2:00pm.  Sunday the Park Pass Program will be in the Fireside Lounge from 9:30-11:30 am and 1:00-2:00 pm.

In order to continue the Club’s commitment of developing our race program athletes, Club operations staff are making adjustments to facilitate early morning training on Avalanche.   Every Sunday beginning January 24th thru February 28th, race program athletes will have access to train on Avalanche from 7:30 am to 9:30 am.  This is a great opportunity for our athletes to train on the Club’s most aggressive terrain and will help prepare them for their competitions.  We recognize that this will require some commitment from parents, but are confident that the added benefit to the athletes will pay dividends.   Head Coach Mark Young will determine team use particulars and ensure that the environment will be beneficial to all athletes.   On the days your athlete is participating they are required to be dropped off at the top of the Club, be on time and ready to ski. Avalanche will be the only lift operating as it is restricted to use by the training participants only.  All other lift and trail regular opening schedules apply.   As the season goes on take some time to cheer on our race program athletes.   Any questions or comments racing@beavervalley.ca

Wow! Great sliding, fresh snow and even sunshine

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

Now that the winter season is well underway our quest to fulfill our snow fun quota is on!   Mother Nature; with the help of our operation crews has once again delivered allowing us to open 4 of 6 lifts and 12 of our 28 trails.   As temperatures and the Beaver River water flows allow our operation crews are working hard to maximize our snowmaking production.  In the days and weeks to come there are a number of cold weather windows that will continue to allow us the opportunity to open additional lifts and trails.   The Club is open everyday through to January 3rd.   Get out and enjoy!

With every company there are times that it is open or closed for business.   In our every day lives when a business is open; we have access to buy our groceries or get a ride to work on the train.   When closed the business removes access in order to restock the shelves and service the train.   The process is no different at the club.  On a daily basis the lifts and trails within the Club boundaries are open for ski and snowboard enthusiasts to enjoy from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.   Thruway and Eager Beaver are available at 8:00am for those that live or park at the top.   When the Club is closed, access within the Club boundaries is not permitted. This includes any activities but not limited to snow sliding, hiking or walking as well as the use of motorized vehicles.   We encourage snowshoe and cross country enthusiasts to cross the Club property around the perimeters at the top through the parking lots, the bottom to hug the tree line’s and edge of the club house. This will ensure minimum interaction with the snow sliding users.    Maps are available at the Snow School desk.

Successful Club operations require the use of motorized vehicles to complete many tasks during the day and night.   During our open hours employees on snowmobiles responding to lift or patrol related emergencies may be traveling on the following designated routes True North, Old Tom, Ridge Run, and Southern Comfort.   Simple rules to follow are the same as if driving a car encountering an emergency vehicle, if possible move away from its path and stop allowing the snowmobile to pass.  When the Club is closed both tracked vehicles and snowmobiles will be traveling on any trail within the Club boundaries.   The machine operators are always attentive to their surroundings but are not expecting to see people as the area is closed.   We encourage everyone to use the Club trails during the open hours, but please respect our closure policy.  This we hope will allow everyone a safe and happy winter.

Member badge pick up will be in the Administration Office Monday thru Friday, and continue in the Fireside Lounge on Saturday and Sunday.  The Park Pass program will also be available in the Fireside Lounge from 9:30-11:30 am and 1:00-2:00 pm.

Now available “Beaver Chipshttp://www.beavervalley.ca/members/chips-currentlink

As our race programs begin their on snow focus there will be some trail closures.    The plan through the end of the winter break will be to use Exhibition for training on December 31st from 9:00am – 1:00pm.   As the season goes on take some time to cheer on our race program participants.   Any questons or comments racing@beavervalley.ca.

Upcoming events include the Body Sculpt class on the 31st, Pyjama Day January 1st and meet the GM Après Ski on the 2nd.    It is important to note that due to ticket sales challenges the New Year’s Eve party has been postponed to December 31, 2010.  We would encourage your feedback in planning for next years New Years celebration.   Please do not hesitate to contact us at the Club 1-519-986-2520 or mail@beavervalley.ca

Wishing you the best in 2010!  We look forward to sliding with you soon.

Snow School Desk                   8:30 am to 4:00 pm

In addition the Park Pass program will be available this weekend in the Fireside Lounge from 9:30-11:30 am and 1:00-2:00 pm.

If you are still looking for that Christmas present or final piece of winter gear, Squire Johns will also be open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on both Saturday and Sunday.

Moving forward into next week the weather looks promising as there are many storm fronts moving through the area offering the promise of cooler temperatures and flurries.   The snowmaking crew is on call at a moments notice to start the process of covering our favourite runs.  Our goal is to have the club open for skiing and snowboarding as soon as possible.    We will provide an update next week with regard to our opening plans for the winter holiday period.

As this is my first year with the Club, I look forward to the opportunity to meet all of you.     If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at the Club 1-519-986-2520 or mail@beavervalley.ca

Helmets & Ski Safety Facts and Stats

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

The attached document was circulated by the Canadian Ski Council regarding helmets and ski/snowboard safety. There has been great effort put into this document and is a worthwhile read. Please be assured that the Club is taking steps to improve member/guest/staff awareness of the importance of wearing approved helmets.

The Weatherman is Wrong Again!

Friday, March 27th, 2009

The forecasters have been saying the “R” word all week when referring to tomorrow, Saturday. It now seems the rain will fall tonight, and the prediction is for sunny skies with a high of 9°C to kickoff the weekend. It looks like we will have a mixed bag for closing day Sunday.

The Club played host to the Parkscapers program on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. This is the second time this program has been offered in Ontario. It was started by the Ontario Snow Resorts Association and Gougeon Insurance to promote learning and sharing information among the people involved in designing, building, maintaining and operating terrain parks. BVSC has been involved in Parkscapers from its start three years ago.

A by-product of hosting the program is a new park! As part of the curriculum, the 24 participants worked together to redesign our park and it was tested at the end of the program by some top riders.

A word of caution: at first glance the park looks like it did last weekend. I would ask all riders to easy style the park a couple of time before taking the features. Take offs and landings have changed quite a bit, check it out thoroughly before taking off!

Still lots of snow on the slopes for another weekend of sliding. South looks great and Avalanche has been groomed! Come join us for some more sun ‘n fun!

Happy Trails,
Parker

Glorious Weather – a March Break to Remember!

Friday, March 20th, 2009

Even before it began, March Break was looking like it would be a fantastic time to be at the Club. Now, as it draws to a close, we realize how truly amazing it has been! From day one on March 14th brilliant sunshine and temperatures well above freezing have been the order of the day - day after day! From Sunday to Wednesday the daily high temperature went above 10°C every day and although this cost us some snow cover, night time lows were cold enough to prevent a large scale meltdown. As a result we’ve had plenty of snow to enjoy the special spring flavour of our favourite snow sports all week!Tomorrow the week long festivities continue with competitors ripping up the bumps on Avalanche as Mogul Mania returns. Then enjoy the season’s final après-ski. Don’t forget your Crazy Hat!

Please note: Our annual year end staff appreciation party is happening Sunday afternoon/evening. As in past years, in order to allow all staff to participate, the Club will close at 3:00pm Sunday afternoon. Thank you for your understanding and support for this great team.

The Club will be closed from Monday to Friday to reopen Saturday for closing weekend.

Happy Trails,

Parker
