CLUB SLOPESTYLE (PARK) SNOWBOARD & FREESKI CHAMPIONSHIP
SUNDAY MARCH 14th

The 4th annual Club SLOPESTYLE Snowboard & Freeski Championship is just over a week away, so make sure you sign up this weekend!

There are categories for both skiers and snowboarders, and if you ski as well as snowboard you can enter in both. There are multiple age categories from 6 & Under through to 40+ and everything in between for girls and guys.
This is BV’s most fun contest of year and it’s got more prizes than any event! If you ski or ride BV’s parks, big or small, you can enter.

It all takes place in Andy’s Playground Park. If you’re just getting started in the Park, don’t worry there will be small features added that you can ride! BV Park Manager Caleb Bosse is adding smaller features similar to Cat’s Meow progression park to Andy’s Playground for the Slopestyle Championship. Note to parents: you can shadow your child down the Slopestyle park course during their run.

You can register at the Clubhouse this Saturday, either at a registration table in the lobby beside the Senior Member’s Lounge or downstairs at the Club office. The cost is $5 for each of Snowboard and Ski categories or $10 if you want to compete in both. Please be sure to indicate snowboard or ski or both when you register. Note: helmets are mandatory.

SLOPESTYLE FORMAT
Slopestyle is a judged event with the emphasis on fun and style. Show-off your best tricks on your choice of park features. The competition will be a fun, free flowing “Jam Format”, one rider at a time. Riders will be organized into pre-assigned age group heats. Heat times will be posted in advance to indicate what time you compete (so you don’t have to wait around all day).

The Slopestyle course will consist of the top section of Andy’s Playground which will be updated as snow conditions permit with additional features, in particular some smaller jumps and boxes on the rider’s right side.

Younger competitors (10 & under) will receive one run, as will those who are 35 & over. For everyone else, we’ll try to provide two runs, time and conditions permitting.

SLOPESTYLE JUDGING & SCORING
There is no minimum number of tricks required – perform as many or few as you wish.

Slopestyle runs will be scored by judges as follows:
20% = Amplitude: the measure of energy of the run that is shown by the height or airtime of each maneuver off the terrain features.
20% = Difficulty of tricks, including doing a tricks switch, the number of rotations and what kind of grabs.
20% = Execution & Landings: tricks should be solid and smooth, with good control. Grabs should be distinct and held as long as possible.
40% = Style / Overall Impression: the overall composition of the run including the sequences and quantity of tricks, the amount of risk and how the rider uses the features.

Help Beaver Valley Ski Club Reduce Unnecessary Idling!

February 18th, 2010

Beaver Valley is one of twenty snow resorts from across Ontario that is participating in a program to cut its vehicle emissions and improve air quality by focusing on reducing unnecessary engine idling this winter season.  Beaver Valley will be working with its guests, bus drivers and staff to reduce emissions caused by unnecessary idling by 5 to 10% over 2010.

The Engine Idling Reduction Program is an initiative of the Ontario Snow Resorts Association, developed with the generous support of Natural Resources Canada and delivered by My Sustainable Canada.  For more information, visit the Ontario Snow Resort Association website at:  http://www.skiontario.ca (click on Environmental Corner).
